Abstract
Histological and biometric studies were conducted in 243 females and 296 males of the spiny lobster Panulirus laevicauda (Latreille). Specimens were captured by diving in two separate points on the Ceara State coast, Brazil (Iguape and Meireles Beach, Fortaleza). Sexual dimorphometric was found in several relationships calculated for immature and mature individuals. In the immature stage, only the carapace width/carapace lenght (lc/cc) exhibited statistical significant difference, suggesting that a distinct growth proportion exists in each sex. In the mature stage, the following relationships were statiscally significant : total lenght/carapace lenght (lc/cc), second abdominal segment width/carapace lenght (lsa/cc), second periopod lenght/carapace lenght (c2p/cc), third periopod lenght/carapace lenght (c3cc), fifth periopod length (c5p/cc). The growth rate of some measurements related to the carapace lenght changes when the individuals of both sex attain maturity.
