Este trabalho trata da composição ictiofaunística das capturas artesanais efetuadas em pescarias realizadas no litoral sul da Paraíba (Brasil), no ano de 1997. Foram realizadas coletas mensais de peixes e informações estatísticas da produção total em locais de desembarque do pescado. As capturas foram efetuadas por barcos, redes de esperas e linhas de mão, a uma distância de aproximadamente 18.000m da costa. Do total de 9291,7kg de peixes capturados, foram identificadas dezoito (18) famílias. As maiores capturas anuais, por família, identificadas, foram representadas por Scombridae (1.519,2kg) e por Carangidae com (1.501kg), correspondendo a 32,5% do total da produção anual.

The present work is concerned to the ictyofaunistic composition of the captures done by the fishermen in South Coast of Paraíba State (Brasil), in the year of 1997. Monthly collections were accomplished in places of landing of the fish, along wiht statistical analyses of the total production of fish. The fish captures were made by guills nets and hand lines apparatus, on the small boats at a distance of 18.000 m of the coast, approximately. From the total of 9291,7kg of captured fish, eighteen families were identified. With relationship to the number of identified families, the largest annual captures were represented by the Scombridae family, (1.519,2kg), the by Carangidae family (1.501,0 kg), corresponded both to 32,5% of the total annual production.
