A população de Goniopsis cruentata foi estudada de maio a dezembro de 2000, no estuário do Rio Camaragibe (Alagoas). Neste trabalho foi observada proporção entre machos e fêmeas de 1:1,15, num total de 2.924 indivíduos amostrados. As maiores concentrações de machos e fêmeas, por classe de comprimento do cefalotórax, foram registradas nas faixas de 38,3 - 39,5 mm e 36,0 - 38,0 mm, respectivamente. Determinouse para cada sexo, a relação entre o comprimento e largura do cefalotórax. As análises biométricas indicaram existir correlação significante (R2 = 0,87) entre medidas do comprimento, e entre comprimento e peso total. Esta espécie, independente de sexo, apresenta um pico reprodutivo no mês de outubro e um de recrutamento no mês de setembro.

The population of the mangrove crab Goniopsis cruentata was studied from May to December, 2000, on the Camaragibe River estuary, Alagoas State, Brazil. In this paper, the sex-ratio was estimated as 1M:1.15F, from a sample of 2,924 individuals. The highest frequencies of males and females by class of carapace length were registered in the ranges of 38.3 – 39.5 mm and 36.0 – 38.0 mm, respectively. The relationships between width and length of the carapace and length and weight, for each sex, were submitted to regression analysis, proving there to be high statistical correlation (R2 = 0.87) between those variables. This species, regardless of sex, has peak occurrences of reproduction in October and of recruitment, in September.
