Resumo
O objetivo do presente trabalho é estimar a fecundidade de Ucides cordatus no município Passo de
Camaragibe, Alagoas. A
Abstract
This study estimates the fecundity of Ucides cordatus in the city Passo de Camaragibe Alagoas, Brazil. A total of 101 ovigerous females were caught using the “braceamento” method. The cephalothorax and abdominal width and egg mass and total body weight were obtained. Three sub-samples of 100mg of egg mass were separated and placed in Petri dish for egg counting. The fecundity was estimated using the gravimetric method and through the formula F = n * p/ps. The average size of the captured females was 44.91 mm of carapace width and the average body weight was 39.50 g. Individual fecundity ranged from 17,698 to 233,372 eggs. The equations obtained were F = 0.0014 LC4.6734, F = 1.4017 LA3.3135 and F = 3070.3PT-34510. There is strong correlation between fecundity and size and weight (p<0.0001). The significant relation between size and weight of individuals and fecundity indicates that bigger females contribute a greater number of eggs. In view of the fact that few very large females were present in the sample; the conclusion is that large females should be preserved as they have the largest impact on species reproduction.
