Resumo
Objetivando obter conhecimentos sobre a biologia de Callinectes maracaiboensis (Taissoun, 1969), foram realizadas coletas mensais, no estuário do rio Una, litoral sul de Pernambuco, no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2000, compreendendo 1.001 indivíduos, dos quais 559 eram machos e 442 fêmeas. O comprimento e largura do cefalotórax variaram nas faixas de 15 - 81 mm e 24 – 126 mm, nos machos, e 23 - 79 mm e 31 - 110 mm, nas fêmeas, respectivamente. O recrutamento para a pesca ocorre predominantemente no período de julho a outubro. Os machos são mais pesados e mais largos do que as fêmeas, mas não há diferença no comprimento do cefalotórax entre sexos.
Abstract
During the period from January to December, 2001, monthly samples were taken at the Una River's estuary, southern coast of Pernambuco State, with the aim of getting an insight into the biology of the swimming crab, Callinectes maracaiboensis. A total of of 1,001 individuals was collected, out of which 559 were males and 442 females. Carapace's length and width varied in the ranges of 15 - 81 mm and 24 - 126 mm, for males, and 23 - 79 mm and 31 - 110 mm, for females, respectively. Recruitment was found to span the period from July to October. Males are heavier than females, yet no difference was found to exist between sexes as to carapace's length.
