Abstract
The intertidal zone, in rocky areas shelter groups of algae or animals that form clusters providing microhabitats that make up perfect camouflage environments, in addition to feeding and shelter for some organisms. Thus, the present work's objective is to make qualitative and quantitative surveys of macroinvertebrates associated to clustered tubes constructed by Nicolea uspiana Nogueira, 2003 on the sidewalls of Boa Viagem Beach reefs. The data were obtained through daytime sampling at the intertidal zone, in July and August of 2004, during low spring tides, on latitudes 08º07'17,2''- 08º07'19''S, and longitudes 34º53'41,3'' - 34º53'41,6''W, by means of twelve 0.04- m2 quadrates randomly distributed on the reefs' sidewalls. The macroinvertebrates associated to the tubes were represented by 384 specimens distributed over 38 taxa, grouped in eight phyla (Porifera, Cnidaria, Mollusca, Annelida, Arthropoda, Echinodermata, Bryozoa, Chordata). The most frequent taxon was the Eunicidae family
(100%), followed by Nereididae, Alpheidae, Grapsidae e Melitidae. Phylum Arthropoda was the better qualiquantitatively represented, with 198 individuals distributed over 12 taxa, among which the Melitidae stand out with 79 specimens, followed by Annelida with 117 specimens of seven taxa, and Eunicidae with 70 individuals. This survey is supposed to contribute to the knowledge of a seldom studied habitat, yet of great relevance in the life cycle of various species.
