This habitat heterogeneity promotes the diversity of fauna. Because of these and other several reasons Cerrado is considered one of the world's most important, comprising 5% of the global biodiversity, approximately 7,000 plant species, 1,200 fish, 150 amphibians, 180 reptiles, 837 birds and 199 mammal, which 44% of vascular plants, 28% of amphibians, 17% of reptiles, 3.4% birds and 9.5% of mammals are endemic to the biome (KLINK & MACHADO, 2005). In addition, the cerrado has a terrestrial vertebrate fauna distinct from other biomes (COLLI, 2002; RODRIGUES, 2005). From the biogeographical point of view, the Cerrado fauna boasts several groups restricted to specific environments, in general shares elements of the adjacent biomes, giving it a more general character.
