Jalapao Ecological Corridor project transfers database server to Palmas

The JICA expert Manabu Kawaguchi promoted this week the transfer of the database server, which was installed in a private provider in Brasilia, to the Secretaria de Planejamento e Modernização Administrativa (SEPLAN) in Palmas. In this server is installed on the Geographic Information System to the Internet (WEB GIS), created specifically for the project (www.jalapaocorredor.com.br), which provides to the society a range of socioeconomic and environmental information with a focus on participatory planning strategies for a sustainable use of the natural resources in the Jalapao region.

"We Decided to bring to our database server Palmas, to be installed in Seplan because it will be easier to share our own satellite images and GIS data" Explained Mr. Kawaguchi. The access to the information was difficult sometimes because the slow Internet and the maintenance was complicated due to the distance.

The SEPLAN’s Directorate of Research and Ecological-Economic Zoning through the Department of Ecological-Economic Zoning, will be responsible for managing, maintaining and updating the data base. The intention of JICA is allowing free public access to the information and that this database can be updated and / or supplemented in the scope of the Project.

The server transfer is aligned to the content of the Statement of Reciprocity signed in September 2011, between the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation - ICMBio, SEPLAN and other institutions of the Government of Tocantins, in the implementation of the Ecological Corridor of the Jalapao Region in Tocantins.
