Workshops on Planning and Environmental Action Plans

The Jalapão Region Ecological Corridor Project is conducting a series of workshops with representatives of the Environment and Tourism Municipal Secretariats and Councils aiming at strengthening the local capacity of environmental planning and management.

The workshops' program includes notions of planning and management, public budgeting and highlight elements from official documents, such as the list of priorities of CAOMA/MPE, the City Master Plan, the Ecological VAT criteria, and others.

Among the expected outcomes, in addition to the promotion of training opportunities for the local people, are being prepared Environmental Action Plans for five years and Work Plans for 2013, which will direct the municipal investment on nature conservation.

The consultant Selene Sotero reinforces that the Environmental Action Plans cover in its Macro Challenges and Thematic Programmes some of the weakness faced by the Cerrado Biome (fauna, flora and water resources) to improve the quality of life and to strengthen environmental management and tourism. The Work Plans for 2013, already prepared in two out of four counties, shows the tendency to prioritize the preparation of the Solid Waste Municipal Plan and actions for land management aiming at the protection and conservation of the natural elements.

Must be highlighted the trend of municipal councillors and public servers to set the "future vision" emphasizing nature as wealth to be used to improve the local quality of life, as below:

São Félix: Municipality heart of Jalapão, place where nature is protected and conserved, cultivating their traditions and culture, ensuring sustainability.

Mateiros: Mateiros of strong people where culture and nature are present.

Ponte Alta: The Jalapão starts here, Ponte Alta do Tocantins of friendly people and natural beauty.

Rio da Conceição: Municipality of Rio da Conceição, the gate to Jalapão, preserving and conserving sustainably.
