Municipalities participates in the Ecological Corridor Project Conclusion Forum

Representatives of the Municipal Councils of Environment and Tourism (COMATURs) and the Municipalities involved in the Jalapão Ecological Corridor Project presented their experiences in the Jalapão Region Ecological Corridor Project Forum – Promoting Municipal Environmental Management, held in the auditorium of Naturatins this Friday, October 26th. Also participated partner institutions such as the State Prosecutor Office, the State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development, the state Secretariat of Education, the Ulbra University, among others, as well as students and press.

The President of Naturatins, Alexandre Tadeu Rodrigues, who thanked the efforts of JICA expert team and its own staff at work, performed the opening ceremony. Rodrigues reinforced the need for continued action in the region and reiterated the State Government's intention to implement a second phase of the Project Corridor. The proposal is currently being analysed by the Government of Japan.

In addition to advances in the structuring of municipal councils through trainings and consultancy, were highlighted the Terms of Commitment signed by the Mayors of São Félix, Mateiros, Ponte Alta and Rio da Conceição, that determine the allocation of a percentage of the resources from ICMS-Ecológico for the Municipal Environmental Fund. The funds will be managed by the COMATURs and operated by the Municipal Environment and Tourism Secretary.

The event ended with a discussion on ways to COMATURs / Municipalities to promote their development and the preservation of its natural heritage.
