MORFOMETRIA E RENDIMENTO DE CARCAÇA DA TARTARUGA-DA-AMAZÔNIA, Podocnemis expansa (SCHWEIGGER, 1812), CAPTURADA EM AMBIENTE NATURAL

Resumo
O presente estudo foi realizado com a finalidade de ampliar o conhecimento sobre a tartaruga-da-amazônia, Podocnemis expansa (Schweigger, 1812), em condições naturais na Reserva Biológica do Rio Trombetas, Oriximiná, Estado do Pará. A amostra constou de 33 animais capturados nos lagos Jacaré e Erepecu com redes-de-emalhar, espinhel e tapuá. De cada animal foram tomadas medidas morfométricas e ponderais, bem como estimativas do rendimento em carne e gordura. Também foram determinadas algumas correlações entre as medidas morfométricas e corporal. Equações de regressão referentes ao peso corporal, pesos da carapaça e do plastrão, assim como os comprimentos e larguras de carapaça e de plastrão foram testados pelo coeficiente de correlação de Pearson (r). A média de peso corporal estimada está abaixo do informado na literatura, provavelmente devido a medições terem sido feitas em diferentes fases do ciclo vital e/ou a efeitos da sobrexplotação. A média de peso corporal encontrada foi de 6,3 kg, considerando-se uma freqüência de peso mais acentuada entre 1,6 kg e 8,9 kg. As médias de comprimento e largura da carapaça foram, respectivamente, 39,6 cm e 35,4 cm. Os rendimentos médios de carne e de gordura foram 24,1% e 8,9%.

Abstract
This study was designed with the aim of expanding the scientific knowledge of the Amazon turtle, Podocnemis expansa, under natural conditions in the Trombetas River Biological Reserve, Oriximiná county, Pará State, Brazil. The sample was comprised of 33 animal caught in Jacaré and Erepecu lakes with gillnets, longlines and trawlnets. Morphometric measures were taken and yields in meat and fat estimated for each animal. Regression equations were calculated for shell width/shell length relationship and weight (body, shell and breastplate)/shell length relationships which were submitted to a significance test by means of Pearson's correlation coefficient at the 5% level. The estimated mean body weight was found to be less than that reported in the literature, a finding which may probably be ascribed to measurements having been taken at different phases of life history and/or to overexploitation effects. The mean body weight was estimated at 6.3 kg being more frequent in the 1.6 - 8.9 kg rang, and mean length and width of the shell as 39.6 cm and 35.4 cm, respectively.
