Este trabalho foi executado no perío de julho de 2005 a junho de 2006, em Belmonte - Bahia, onde ocorre uma importante pesca motorizada direcionada ao camarão marinho, no qual a maior participação (em torno de 95,0%) é do camarão Xiphopenaeus kroyeri, popularmente conhecido por sete-barbas. De um total de 5.418 indivíduos amostrados, a participação média das fêmeas foi de 63,1%, em relação aos machos. O comprimento médio do cefalotórax foi estimado em 15,1 mm e 16,2 mm para macho e fêmea, respectivamente. A população de camarão sete-barbas nesta localidade, é formada, na sua maioria, por indivíduos jovens, onde as fêmeas I (Imaturas) tiveram uma participação bastante elevada (47,6%). O recrutamento principal foi constatado entre maio e junho. A participação média entre produção de camarão e peixes da fauna acompanhante foi de, aproximadamente, 1:2.

This research work was conducted at Belmonte, Bahia State, in the period from July, 2005 to June, 2006, where an important motorized fishery of marine shrimp takes place, among which the seabob shrimp, Xiphopenaeus kroyeri, stands out as the target species with a 95% share of total production. The sexual proportion was 36.9% male and 63.1% female, derived from a sampling of 5,418 individuals. The mean carapace length was estimated as 15.1 mm (males) and 16.2 mm (females). At that landing site, a major proportion of the stock is accounted for by juveniles, out of which immature females (gonad stage I) turned up with a large participation (47.6%). The main time of recruitment occurs in the months May and June. A ratio of 1:2 was found to exist between the fishing yields of shrimp and by-catch.
