Este trabalho apresenta os resultados sobre a participação por espécie de camarões selecionados nas categorias de "pequenos" e "grandes", pelos pescadores artesanais de Tamandaré, PE. As coletas foram realizadas mensalmente, no período de maio/1986 a dezembro/1991. A classificação "pequeno" reuniu as espécies Xiphopenaeus kroyeri Heller, 1862 e Penaeus subtilis Pérez-Farfante, 1963, sendo que esta última apresentou produção mais elevada em fevereiro, embora sem ultrapassar a primeira espécie, e a
classificação "grande" reuniu as espécies Penaeus schmitti Burkenroad, 1936 e Penaeus subtilis, esta última ultrapassou a primeira espécie nos meses de fevereiro e abril.

The shrimps caugth by the artisanal fisheries at Tamandaré, PE, are classified by size in two categories: small and large. In the present work we studied these captures, through samples collecte monthly from May, 1986 to December, 1991. Under the category "small" were the species Xiphopenaeus kroyeri Heller, 1862 and Penaeus subtilis Pérez-Farfante, 1963, the second species superior in number to the first one. Under the category "large" were the species Penaeus schmitti Burkenroad, 1936 and Penaeus subtilis, and in February and April the production of the second species was higher than the first.
